When Moses and the Israelites fled Egypt during the exodusExodus 16:4-5 the people complained about being hungry so God rained down on them a bread from heaven they called manna that they could gather and eat. It was a substance like coriander seed and it tasted like wafers made with honey. God restricted them to gather only enough for each day, except on the six day when they could gather twice as much in order to observe the sabbath.
On the very first day of gathering some of the people disobeyed and gathered more than enough. When they examined their pots the next day in which they hoarded the manna they discovered it had putrefied and was full of maggots.
In much the same way Jesus is the bread that came down from heaven.John 6:41 He is our Manna. Therefore, it is imperative that we spend time each and every day to feed on Jesus,John 6:57 the author and perfecter of our faith,Hebrews 12:2 because we can’t get enough of Him today that will last until tomorrow. What spiritual nourishment we do receive today will begin to putrefy by the next and soon, if we don’t seek Jesus, what we did have will be gone.
