When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well their discussion quickly became spiritual. Jesus concluded by saying, “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:21-24

Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” — John 1:38-39
When I first read the above passage, I skimmed over it not thinking it was very important, but I did think it kind of strange of Jesus. Why would He say that? I questioned Jesus purpose here because I envisioned him asking the way I would have asked someone following me. I’d be very suspicious and speak in a suspicious tone which for me would be a little harsh and grating. I couldn’t imagine Jesus doing that. So I thought it peculiar.
Just recently a brother helped me realize the enormous importance of this question. Astonishingly it’s really the most important [Read more…] about What Do You Want?
You might disagree, but slipping into an air of superiority and judging others is really quite easy to do. We might even be doing it unintentionally and quite often without knowing it. This is especially true if we are putting our best effort forward to do what is right and true before God. I know that sounds counter productive, but it just may help explain what Paul was driving at when he wrote Romans chapter seven.
The other day it occurred to me that I was unwittingly judging others as undeserved and inferior. The amazing thing in all of this was that I was actually trying to serve God and do His will. I discovered unbeknownst and to my dismay that I had been subtly judging for quite some time. If after reading this article you examine your life closely. You will also discover that it’s easy to slip into a superior than others attitude even when you’re trying to your best to please God. [Read more…] about Judging Others
When I died with Christ I was buried with him in baptism and raised up to a new life putting to death the old self and putting on the new.
Could it be, that when I struggle, I am resurrecting my old self again? Maybe its just a sliver of my old self, but this I know, when I do that, [Read more…] about Struggling with Sin
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” —Jesus (Matthew 12:31-32 ESV)
“Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” —Jesus (Mark 3:28-29 NIV)
When I first heard about blaspheme of the Holy Spirit a chill ran down my spine and twinge of pain also ran through my heart as I asked myself in angst, “What if I blasphemed the Holy Spirt already? Is there any hope for me? Am I lost forever?” [Read more…] about The Unforgivable Sin
